Truth About The AMSR Fad & White Noise

There was a story on the news this morning about AMSR, the technique claiming to cure insomnia. What the report fails to target is that it's not the whispering that stimulates the Alpha state that can control insomnia, it's the white noise delivered in the stereo field.

I've PTSD and insomnia, and trust me, whispering has the exact opposite effect on me. Whispering, admittedly, does venture partially into white noise and perhaps for some people it works, especially if you imagine it's a cute girl whispering in your ear (which explains why some of these girls on youtube get so many views).

The sound of rain, which is perhaps the best white noise delivery, especially on headphones to get the full binaural effect (stereo field), has a proven and dramatic effect on people suffering from both insomnia and/or tinnitus (ringing in the ear).

I've done sound research since 1978, mainly out of necessity, and sound has an enormous effect on our mental well being. It can be used as a weapon (loud rock music against an enemy for example), or can be used to cure numerous ailments.  Music, for example, can be and has been life-saving.  If I didn't have music, I would have been in the grave long ago.

What is white noise?
White light
White noise, like white light, consists of all frequencies combined together.

In simple terms, white noise is a special type of sound signal which is used to mask background sounds. When used to promote healthy sleep, white noise helps to drown out sounds which might otherwise prevent you from either falling asleep or waking up whilst asleep.

For more on white noise and it's effects on sleep, check out this link: http://sleepjunkies.com/features/sleep-soundly-with-white-noise/

Anyhizzle, check out this rain track, recorded in full binaural stereo...if you get sleepy, you can thank me later when you wake up.  In the meantime, I'm gonna listen and then zzzzzzzzzzzz.

BITS OF TID - February 2014

Three reasons why I blog---one, to leave a legacy of thoughts for my son; two, as perhaps something to entertain and educate the reader; and three, as a kind of catharsis.

BITS OF TID

Here's some tidbits, or bits of tid; stream of consciousness snack food for thought...

WE DON'T SEEM TO LEARN LESSONS FROM HISTORY

"First, they came for the Jews, and I did nothing; then the blacks and browns, and I did nothing; then the Muslims, and I did nothing, then the Gays, and I did nothing; then their political opponents, and I did nothing; then ppl of other religions, and I did nothing; now they are coming for me, and I regret I did nothing." - You or me unless we do something.

IS AMERICA GOING BACKWARD... TO WORLD WAR II?

As someone who's half Jewish, part Samoan, and a feminist, I'm thinking that maybe humanity needs to find a new hobby...like hating the rich oligarchs trying to destroy them if they MUST hate something. Watch the movie Geography Club--especially for young people as it explores how bullying affects all of us.

TARGETED NEWS MEDIA CREATES NARROW MINDEDNESS AMONG AMERICANS

Cable news, like MSNBC for example...how about something other than what we already know about Chris Christie? How about something about the 32 billion spent in Asia arming themselves to the teeth in preparation for war with China and North Korea? How about the tension between the US and Russia over events in Kiev? How about the BS with Tepco in Japan continuing to dump Strontium 90 into the ocean? How about the fact that the Philippines is mirroring the US with an economic boom that favors ONLY the rich, where the average salary there is between $1.25 and 2.00 A DAY. Holey cheeses, Maury Povich and Jello Shots, talk about something else!!

ACTORS ARE ARTISTS, TOO

While I love Hitchcock's work, I wasn't happy about his opinion of actors. If...well, I should say when (as I have had some promising news I'll eventually elaborate on) I get The Invaders and Trancendant to the screen, whoever directs should be more respectful. Actors are artists in that they take the printed word, an idea in a writer's head, and give it life, dimension, substance. Like painting with movement and voice. Without actors, a director is just a guy talking to himself. I do enough of that already.

YOU SHOULD BELIEVE IN "BELIEVE" - A NEW NBC DRAMA

Saw a screener of the new NBC show, #Believe -- excellent, full of heart, interesting sci-fi fantasy about young pre-adolescent girl with psionic powers, the man conscripted to pretect her who doesn't realize she is his daughter, and the evil conspirators who want to use her for their own agenda. We've seen this before in Touch to a degree, but it's fun, nonetheless.

RUSSIA, PUSSY RIOT AND WHY EDWARD SNOWDEN IS NO HERO

Like I said before, Edward Snowden was, is, will always be a traitor. He's chosen to live in a country run by a secret police oligarch, Russia, which gave him "asylum." Kind of ironic since he ran, like a coward, to escape a regime, as he says, who monitors everything. I'd say there is a difference between monitoring and beating the crap out of unarmed young women who sing protest songs against a shirtless tyrant whose hatred for Jews, LGBT and anyone who disagrees with him is severely and very publicly punished; and the country he ran from. A big difference.

TRANCE - IT'S A MUSIC PHENOMENON EVERYWHERE...EXCEPT AMERICA

The ATB - Contact album is pretty damn good. In my original screenplay, Solamaine the TRANCEndant had a mad crush on ATB. He is a handsome devil. These trance DJs...no wonder they have more girls chasing them than all of Bieber's tweens combined. They make real music, not just spin other artist's tunes. While huge in Europe, UK, Africa, Asia, trance is still gaining ground but not quite as much a phenomenon in the US yet. Remember when America led the pack in everything?

I'M PHOTOSHOP-CHALLENGED...SORT OF

I've used nothing but Photoshop 7 since 2004 and refuse to upgrade. The more they update software, the more overcomplicated.  That said, I saw a story on GMA (Good Morning America) about regular folks who, after being photoshopped for magazine covers, realized they looked more real as themselves. In my case, not only would the photoshop folks complain of having to put in overtime, they'd be calling Adobe and begging for the industrial version of CS5 that would require at least 4 gigs of RAM to run. "Good Gourd All Friday, we're not miracle workers," they would exclaim.
